The Truth about the Brett Favre Controversy

The Brett Farve Controversy is hitting the airwaves after his interview with Greta on her show “On the Record.”  Being one who is old enough to remember watching the “Ice Bowl” as a boy, and often would call Brett, “Bart” by mistake, I thought I would throw out a few thoughts.

There are always two sides to every story, and perhaps that is what makes this controversy so interesting.  The story tellers from each side of it, Brett Favre and the Packer Organization, are usually honest and straightforward in their communication - so from my perspective there isn’t a rat hiding somewhere, it boils down to a conflict of values.  Values?

Watching football through the 1960’s and 1970’s it was rare that a good player would change teams very often.  Once they were established, they stuck with the organization that they found a home with.

As the years went by, things begin to change.  Players begin to simply display what is common in our culture - looking out for #1.  Loyalty to a company or an organization become less of a value or priority.  I’m not condoning or condemning this, just observing.  I can see both sides of the coin:  Players should factor loyalty into their decisions; Organizations should treat their key people with respect and reward appropriately.  Of course the salary cap impacted all these dealings and decisions.

Honestly, I am more old school.   Before we cheese heads condemn Brett Favre, we should also remember Reggie White.  When he first left the Eagles I questioned his loyalty factor - how after being an Eagle all those years, could he put on another jersey?   As time went on though, I embraced his role with the Packers, and loved watching him play.  Subtly my values were changing with the societal swing - Reggie followed his heart and it worked out for him.

The Brett Favre controversy is simply exposing the value shift that has transpired in our culture, and has become very accepted in our culture.  Look out for #1.  Players are looking for the most money or the best place for them; and organizations trading and drafting with the consideration of individual players being overshadowed by the win-loss/profit margin is simply the way business is done now.
The Packer organization has moved on it seems without Brett.  I’ll still be a Packer fan.  Brett changed his mind and now wants to play, the Packers should let him, he has earned it.  If they don’t want to start him, let him find another team to help.  I’ll still be a Brett Favre fan.

When I heard about the Brett Favre controversy, initially I was disturbed.  Now?  I’ve decided I don’t have to choose.  I am a Packer Fan - always have been and always will be.  I mean a REAL fan - I wore green & gold living near Chicago through the 80’s when the Bears were beating us up!  I’ve also become a Brett Favre fan.  He is fun to watch.  I hope he plays next season.  I hope he plays for the Packers.  If he plays for another team, I will be cheering him on, and now have 2 team to follow. (Unless of course it is the Bears - every man has his limits.)

The Power of Truth

We have heard so much about "the power of positive thinking," but after a couple of coaching calls today, it was reinforced to me that more accurate phrase should be "the power of positive and TRUTHFUL thinking."

Positive truth is incredibly powerful.  But it is only potent when coupled with the truth.

You see I had a couple of very refreshing coaching calls today.  My clients were very open and truthful.  We discussed some negative dynamics going on in their lives and business.  We were able to get a more accurate handle on the TRUTH of what was going on, even though it was negative.

Some success gurus would have you believe that any negative thinking at all is wrong - I disagree.

As you can see by this simple chart, I think we would all agree that believing lies is unwise.  Many network marketers do this though.  My friend Ann Sieg does a great job of exposing some of these, but that is not the theme of this note.

We would also agree I think that it is positive truth that is exciting and truly sets people free.

In using my graphic here, it is the lower right corner where I raise the issue.  Negative truth can also be a significant positive factor in personal growth and success.

A couple of my clients faced some negative, yet truthful, things about their lives and character today.  Facing and admitting these things were a huge step towards success.  Was it negative thinking?  Yes.  Was it truthful and helpful though??? YES.

Don't bury your head in the sand.  There are reasons things in life or business do not go well for us - and some of those things need to be processed with honest, clear, truthful, and "negative" thinking.

Just as an example:

Positive - but harmful LIE:  "I am new to network marketing, but I can make a 6 figure income this year."

Negative - but helpful truth:  "I am new to network marketing and lack skills and experience, but I can begin to grow a business this year."

So - yes, let the Power of Positive thinking - the truthful kind - set you free.  But also let the power of negative truth also help you along. Does this change seem overwhelming? One-on-one personal mlm coaching can  assist you in the renewing of your mind also.

The Truth about Ann Sieg

If you are looking for dirt, or the rantings of a threatened CEO or mlm big shot, you will be disappointed.  You will only get a few nudgets of truth here about Ann Sieg.

Here is the truth - I have know Ann Sieg personally for a few years.  Worked closely with her in the recent past.  I've been to her home.  We've met each others families.  In fact, we pray for each other, our families, and work.  Ann Sieg is the real deal.  She is honest and passionate.  As I transitioned into full time missions work, and scaled back to part time hours in network marketing, Ann Sieg carried on, flew by any measure of success I had, and has impacted an industry that was desperately in need of an overhaul.

Her motives are saturated with a desire to see the "average" network marketer make it.  She has gone beyond just exosing the lies that has held the masses in bondage with her free ebook, The 7 Great Lies of Network Marketing, but has also created a system for those wanting fresh revelation, wisdom, and strategies to grow their home based business.

Like me, when I sponsored Ann Sieg, she wanted a home based business, NOT a run around to meeting and bug your family and friends business

She has worked extremely hard, not only to create that for herself and her family, but has dissiminated all the wisdom she gained on her journey with her The Renegade System.

Hard Working.

Honest.

Caring.

PASSIONATE.

There it is - the truth about Ann Sieg.
