Review of Tribes by Seth Godin
When my good friend Ann Sieg said she had read and enjoyed Tribes, I immediately got on-line and had one shipped to me in New Zealand. It is a small book of 147 pages, and a quick read.
Honestly, those down the road a bit on the journey of leadership won’t learn a whole lot. It is not a book of “how to’s” - but much more an essay on how the current cultural dynamics are being impacted by the internet. Human nature is the same, but his insight into the uniqueness of how this new age of global networking on the internet is influencing our lives.
For those wanting to learn how to create income online at home, this book brings great encouragement. The “Tribe” dynamic of human nature that he explains, is a perfect paradigm for those learning niche marketing through social networking and online marketing.
The premise and exhortation of the work is simply to reveal a fresh venue in which leaders can arise. His explanations and revelations are intended to produce fresh courage and zeal for the “average” person to move out of their comfort zones, understand the new dynamics of leadership created by the internet, and then simply to DO IT.
He does a good, and sometimes humorous, job of showing how wrong thinking can create fear. He tells many stories which motivate the individual to overcome their fears and move into leadership. He explains how in this era the risks are much less than in past generations, and the rewards great.
I don’t know about you, but I enjoy the sermon, book, or movie more if I concur with the underlying values or ethical base. I enjoyed this book as it affirmed the direction that Ann & I are building a business through the power of the internet and understanding the “Tribe” dynamic. You will enjoy it and find encouragement and affirmation on your quest if you are an aspiring renegade marketer.
